The Sinulog de Tanjay, also known as “Sinulog sa Tanjay,” is a vibrant annual celebration in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental, held every July. It honors St. James the Greater (Señor Santiago Apostol), the city’s patron saint, and commemorates a historic battle between Christian soldiers and Moro invaders, where local legend attributes their victory to divine intervention. This festival blends religious devotion and cultural tradition, marking both faith and history.

The festival’s centerpiece is the street dancing, where participants, dressed in bright, festive costumes, reenact the battle between Christians and Moros, symbolizing triumph and protection. The choreography showcases both struggle and celebration, reflecting the event’s spiritual significance. Alongside the reenactment, the celebration features various activities like beauty contests, cultural performances, and live entertainment.

Sinulog de Tanjay is not only a display of religious fervor but also a showcase of Tanjay’s rich heritage and strong sense of community, making it an essential experience for visitors and locals alike.
